canisiushsrow captured the Terhaar Cup and the Foley Trophy for the first time in program history by winning the First Varsity and Second Varsity Eight races against Central Catholic of Pittsburgh and St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute in a match race Saturday on Lake Wilhelm in northwestern Pennsylvania.

"Match racing, with just one or two other boats next to you, is mostly psychological," coach Jacob Filby '14 said. "The boats did exactly what we planned for when they took the lead early and commanded the race from there. We need to be the ones dictating the pace from the start, and the boats did a tremendous job with that."

In the First Varsity Eight, Canisius finished with a time of 6:01, with Central Catholic at 6:03 and St. Joe's at 6:38.

This earned the crew of Max Burget '24, Peter Cross '24, Liam Feeney '25, Isaiah Aljuwani '25, Ethan Pirigyi '26, Alex Pusateri '24, Thomas Skowron '25, James Dodman '24 and Teddy Hibbard '24 the Terhaar Cup. It was the first Canisius win over Central Catholic in the Varsity Eight event in 12 years.

The Terhaar Cup was donated to the regatta by CHS alum and 1992 Olympian Jim Neil '86.

The Second Varsity crew of Mark Kadiev '24, Owen Gray '26, Meer Renschler-Pandey '25, Oliver Reynolds '26, Kohler Stewart '25, Aydan Weese '25, Evan Dahl '26, Matt Zakrzewski '25 and coxswain Noah Rajecki '25 recorded a five-second victory, finishing with a time of 6:17 over the Vikings' 6:22.

This earned CHS the Foley Trophy, which honors former Central Catholic oarsman Brendan Foley, who passed away in 1996.
