February 2nd is World Wetlands Day.

More than 35% of the world’s wetlands have been degraded or lost since 1970. Reversing this trend is critical because healthy lakes, rivers, estuaries and coral reefs are vital to our ecosystem:

🌿 Besides protecting us from floods and droughts, wetlands also help prevent climate change by storing carbon. 

🌿 They provide food, habitat, and breeding grounds for hundreds of species and shelter wildlife from predators. 

🌿 They provide us with natural places to play, learn, and explore while keeping beaches, lakes, and rivers clean.

This year’s theme “It’s Time for Wetland Restoration” highlights the urgent need to prioritize wetland remediation.
