"A Grand Menagerie: The Sculpture of Anna Hyatt Huntington" examines the work of
this pioneering 20th-century sculptor, bringing together 90 works from over 30
institutions across the United States. Best known locally as the sculptor of the "Lions Bridge" in Mariners' Park, Anna Hyatt Huntington (1876-1973) was an internationally celebrated artist in her time, admired for her remarkably realistic sculptures of animals. The artist enjoyed a thriving career producing small-scale works as well as monumental public sculptures, a pursuit undertaken by very few women of her day. Depicting animals both domesticated and exotic as well as historical and mythological figures, Huntington's works are outstanding within the tradition of classical figurative sculpture.
