As we get ready to bid farewell to #AAPIHeritageMonth, let's take a moment to reflect on the critically acclaimed solo exhibition we premiered last year, 'Carlos Villa: Worlds in Collision.' This groundbreaking showcase, co-organized by the AsianArtMuseum in San Francisco and the SanFranciscoArtInstitute, celebrated the art and activism of the late Carlos Villa (1936-2013), a Filipino American artist.

Villa's art delves into his personal experiences and identity as a Filipino man, resulting in a captivating fusion of expressionist and minimalist styles with non-Western art forms. Through mixed media paintings, photographs, capes, body castings, and masks, he masterfully centered his brown body and Filipino culture within the contemporary art scene.
