Starting today, Sycamore families and friends will come together for various campus events for Family Weekend.

For Katherine Norris, a sophomore Human Development and Family Science major from Springfield, Illinois, it is a weekend of celebration with her mother, father, and sister. “I am a first-generation college student, so I am honored to provide my family and me with this experience,” Norris said. “I also have not been able to show my family around campus, so I am excited to do that as well.”

“I am looking forward to taking pictures, painting pumpkins, and going to the football game. I did not have the opportunity to attend family weekend last year, so I am excited to celebrate this year.”

Norris decided to attend Indiana State University because “it felt like a place I could call home.”

“I enjoy the atmosphere, diversity, and learning opportunities I can receive here. I am a Resident Assistant, so I love being able to facilitate a welcoming environment with my residents and be someone that they can rely on. I also thoroughly enjoy my major classes and working towards my goal of being a middle school counselor.”

Michael Mokrzycki, a senior #Aviation Management major from Gurnee, Illinois, attends Family Weekend every year.  This year, his parents, his sister, and his dog will join various events including watching the Indiana State Sycamores take on the Montana Grizzlies in a football game on Saturday and the movie Lightyear during movie night Friday at the Quad.

“This weekend means a time for family to come and enjoy ISU,” he said.

Other Family Weekend events include a cookout, a trivia game, caricature drawings, Sycamore Bingo, brunch at the #Sycamore Dining Hall, and open houses hosted by the ( isu_honors ) Honors College, ( isuchhs ) The College of Health and Human Services, ( isuteamtech ) The College of Technology, The Scott College of Business ( indstatescob ), and The College of Arts and Sciences (#IndStateCAS).

Families can also enjoy the 16th Annual Indiana Bat Festival and the second annual Porter Cancer Research Center Race for Research.
