"Our company was launched in 1983 by my father, Massaud Salem. Initially, Salem’s began by serving restaurants, businesses and schools as a supplier of quality foods under the name, Salem's Halal Meats. At that time, our company had one main focus, to supply quality Halal meat to our community and provide a variety of international groceries. Our goal is to always make a great impact by serving the community here in Pittsburgh.⁠

Our restaurant is an amazing destination with a large menu of incredibly tasty items; a place to indulge! Our market is well known for its butcher shop which boasts the freshest beef, chicken, lamb and goat. It also features a large International mix goods in PGH offering, Indian/Paki, East European/Turkish/Russian/Greek, African and Arabic foods.⁠
I am also very excited about our catering business! I feel like we offer the best bang for your catering buck. We have generations of customers. We have done the same family’s graduation party, wedding and retirement party! Also, as things have gotten back to normal, we have been busy with catering lunches for local businesses. They love that we offer more than a meal, it is truly an experience."⁠

What gets you excited to go to work every day?’⁠
"Our people here. Hands down. From our CFO to our dishwasher and everyone in between, we have the best humans working here. Good people are fundamental to the foundation of our company. But of course, our customers get me very excited as well. We are a true melting pot of Pittsburgh and I am really proud of that. Stop in any day and you will see a multitude of colors enjoying a meal with us."⁠

What's next for you?⁠
"We will be opening a supermarket, Salem’s Marketplace in the Hill District in 2023. This is Salem’s first step in our quest to provide an unforgettable grocery experience for the neighborhood. We are well-known for providing fresh, Halal, healthy, local foods to region. We see the store as a public asset and we have been elected by the community to offer the marketplace experience."⁠
