It's #WorldHumanitarianDay and #BlackPhilanthropyMonth. 🙏🏾

“Most people still don’t know that giving and other forms of funding are hardwired in Black cultures worldwide,” says Dr. Jackie Bouvier Copeland, creator of Black Philanthropy Month. The rate at which Black people give is actually increasing faster than both their aggregate income and wealth. According to the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, two-thirds of Black American households donate approximately $11 billion each year to charitable organizations and causes — and that doesn’t even cover donations of time and resources, proving that you don’t need copious amounts of money to be a philanthropist.

In 2011, Dr. Copeland created Black Philanthropy Month to celebrate and advance Black giving and funding for social justice globally. The 18 million strong movement “calls us to love each other audaciously in a world that doesn’t always love us back. It reminds us that, despite today’s hard times, #BlackJoy, faith, and our agency enable us to make a way out of no way for ourselves, our families, communities, and the planet we share.”

Celebrate Black Philanthropy Month’s 10th Anniversary and get involved with the thewisefundofficial in the upcoming Action Summit and Celebration on August 31st. The Summit, Reunity, is a women’s power and wellness rally hosted by The Global Black Women’s Funder Network. To learn more visit blackphilanthropymonth.com.

What's the last cause or organization you donated to? What inspired you to financially support them?
