After getting knocked out of the U.S. Open Cup by USL Championship side Detroit City Football Club, Houston Dynamo coach Ben Olsen was asked if there’s a big divide in level between the two leagues and if the USL is really considered a second division.

“Yeah it’s a second division. It’s a second division and it’s not even close,” Olsen snapped back.

“As you go through these tournaments, you mix up the team a little bit and that can be the difference. That can end up equalizing the games.”

“There’s no excuse. It was just a tough night and the way we gave up three goals wasn’t good enough.”

“It was a really gutsy performance from them [Detroit]. The referee stunk, but that’s not the reason we lost.”

“We got knocked out of the Open Cup, it’s not the end of the world.”

Houston Dynamo were the defending Open Cup champions, but got knocked out of the tournament at home after losing in the penalty shootout after a 3-3 draw.
