No Mow May is under way! – are you ready to let it all grow out? No Mow May encourages people to resist the call of the lawn mower and leave lawns untouched until the end of May so that:⁣⁣

🐝 Hibernators that have overwintered in leaves and brush have a chance to wake up without being disturbed.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
🦋 Hungry pollinators have something to eat when they emerge from hibernation: early flowers like dandelions are a key early food source that bees and butterflies rely on. If they are all cut down, there is less to eat.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
🌿 Biodiversity can thrive: When pressure is placed on a habitat, only those species best suited to the pressure will become established over time. Species such as dandelion (Taraxacum officinalis), white clover (Trifolium repens), or allergy-causing plants such as ragweed don't mind being cut regularly: their life cycle is rapid and they reproduce quickly. While beneficial when part of a diverse ecosystem, they will dominate highly manicured gardens, as they are the only ones that will succeed in such a stressed environment. Let your lawn empower the other plants to grow.⁣⁣

💰 Money and resources are saved. Between the mower, the fertilizers, the seeds and the tools, the social pressure to maintain a controlled green lawn with not a blade of grass out of place has become a vast business.⁣⁣

⏱️ Time is saved. Based on the mowing season and the size of the lawn, from mid-May to mid-October, it is likely that by the end of the season you will have spent an average of 20 hours maintaining your lawn. This is time you will be gifted back by a naturally balanced, rewilded green space.⁣⁣
