Time, like memory, is fleeting and not always experienced in a linear fashion. In Sara Olshansky’s single and double-portrait drawings, past, present, and future collide on a single sheet of paper. As the artist explains, by condensing time onto one plane, the dimensions become interdependent. The drawing, like memory “forgets” the erased spaces and “remembers” the marks that remain. Olshansky writes, “Just as we document time in our own minds, the drawing process materializes temporality through erasure and addition of mark.” ⁠
