Inspired by a long tradition of satirical maps with personifications of nations as people or animals, Alina Bliumis created Nations Unleashed, a series of drawings of 21st-century maps that use animals—their symbolism and stereotypes—to comment on global geopolitics of the present moment. Nations Unleashed: Feline Behavior, is a map of the U.S. with each state represented as cats in all different shapes and colors; some are friendly, others not, few expressing agreement or compatibility. ⁠
