Last night, I had the honor of being a guest of genesis_usa at goldhouseco annual Gold Gala.

My friend Cassey helped me pick out the dress because picking out dresses is not my strong suit!

Walking carpets and attending star-studded events tend to elicit social anxiety, but this evening was quite different, largely due to the following:

•The Genesis team was so supportive and lovely and made me feel like their honored guest and reminded me how wonderful it is when you have people in your life who see the good in you even when you have trouble seeing it yourself.

•I got to fangurl over meeting thealiciahannah—a super talented actress and brilliant writer I’ve been following for years!

•I also got to meet with so many content creators I’ve been fans of since 2020!! Meeting ppl I only know through the internet always reminds me that I like almost everyone, because I see the beautiful in everyone. This is my superpower.

•The BEST gala food I’ve ever had and I’m VEGAN. The menu was curated by none other than James Beard winner padmalakshmi and Vijay Kumar, the executive chef at Semma (a restaurant I will stalk until I get to eat in).

•Concluding remarks by co-founder, Bing, reminding us that when we see each other struggling, we can do so much more good together, and that we MUST do good together when we witness suffering. Safety/empowerment is a function of a collective pooling of resources and compassion.

•Hearing the obvious emotion in Lucy Liu’s voice as she described how painful that glass ceiling can be—even when you’re the one who eventually shatters it for all of us—was inspiring and heartbreaking at the same time.

My favorite part though was how I got to meet so many random amazing women thanks to the very thoughtful provision of couches, chairs, and stools for those of us who were wearing heels and needed to take breaks from walking—I got to talk about falling in love, career pivots, chasing dreams, and finding purpose with women I’d only just met because our feet hurt. This made my heart so so full.

Thank you genesis_usa and goldhouseco for an amazing night!! And again—the food was SO GOOD!! #guestofgenesis #goldgala2024
