As we gear up to start filming SEASON 7 of the #BareFeetSeries, I’ve been thinking a lot about this strange concept: the job you all know me for, hosting a travel series on TV, is actually the thing I do the least in my work. Let’s do the math:

Each episode is 28 minutes, and let’s be generous to say that I’m on camera for half of that time. So that’s 14 minutes of me talking, dancing, making music, and voice over.

But in those 14 minutes on camera that YOU see, we had to film 5 days worth of footage, anywhere from 10-14 hour shoot days.

In preparation of those 5 days are weeks & months of getting on WhatsApp calls, zoom meetings, interviewing, researching, cold-calling, emailing, and more.

Before even getting on those calls, I’m taking months, even years, building relationships to find these incredible people & destinations to work with.

On top of that, I spend about 60% of my time fundraising, trying to figure out how to financially make every single new opportunity for Bare Feet happen.

Once we film, the process continues with paper edits, interview notes, re-organizing of segments, storyline shifting, cutting clips to make sure our series fits in the allotted air time given by PBS. Is the information accurate, authentic, honest?

Then more fundraising - always fundraising.

Then press, media, mapping out the right time to bring these stories to the world - all of these factors come into play.

14 years later, here we are, about to embark on another season, and my life is completely different from then: I’ve grown and stretched and evolved into a storyteller that I am so proud of - not just a host, but a producer, a saleswoman, a marketer, a negotiator, I’ve grown grey hairs (proudly) and earned some wrinkles, my body has changed, my life has completely changed, the way I tell these stories has evolved and grown.

So the 14 minutes you see of me in every single Bare Feet episode is a culmination of so much work, it sometimes overwhelms me.

But we made it. Season 7, here we come.
