Hillary was born today in 1919, and alongside Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay, became the first climbers to be confirmed to have reached the summit of Mount Everest. His time spent in the Himalayas sparked his concern for the degradation of the environment, and he spent the rest of his life to exploring and protecting the Earth.
