Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was perhaps the most famous of the family as America’s first professional poet. However, the writing of his family members and children still tells an important story: what it was like to be part of the LGBTQ community in the 19th and early 20th centuries. 

Longnps holds the archives of all the letters, stories, and generally untold family history. They provide an example of how a family’s mindsets changed as they began relationships with people of the same gender and accepted that queerness was not a perceived behavior but an actual identity. 

They were early Americans to say, “We’re here, and we’re queer.” 🏳️‍🌈 #PrideMonth
