February is #BlackHistoryMonth, a month-long observance of African American history and culture. While remembrance cannot be contained to one month alone, this is a special time of the year to draw inspiration and guidance from the past, as there is no force more powerful than remembering our collective history. 

At @vicksburgnps, MS, the African-American Monument pays tribute to the contributions of black soldiers in the Civil War, who served both North and South, either enslaved or free, during the Vicksburg campaign.
