Classification: Doctoral Candidate "I joined KOTG first as a volunteer in the Food Pantry, in response to an ad about students struggling with food insecurity, and volunteers needed to stock the pantry and keep it open to patrons. Actually, I was very surprised that hunger and food insecurity is even a thing on campus, and I just couldn't ignore the fact that there is a need and I could help.

In addition, my management and communication skills are continuously evolving through on-going collaboration with staff advisors and Campus Life leadership. I also get to work closely with some of the chefs in the Dining Services and manage volunteers to coordinate food recovery activities.

Once I became involved as a volunteer, I knew I wanted to help on a larger scale, so I took up the position of VP and now interim President to facilitate programming and sustained awareness of hunger on LSU's campus and the local Baton Rouge community. I also wanted to get familiar with the different campus administration units and interact with undergrads outside of (TA) classes. There are so many units that we have to coordinate with for on-campus student programs, and I probably would not have had the opportunity to work with our dedicated staff members without the KOTG leadership platform."
