Even though we have actually been quite busy under quarantine, we thought this was the perfect time to re-ignite our ExHL project. .
The Utah Elk were planned the entire time of this project. As the state animal of a non-traditional pro hockey market we knew it was going to be a big design challenge. A challenge because it is a huge animal, that is essentially all 1 color, and it’s antlers are huge and create a completely asymmetrical  balance— but this project is about pushing ourselves and our skills.

As always, we try to tell a story. 5 points to represent “The Mighty 5” and a color scheme & type lockup pulled straight tom the “life elevated” campaign — Which we unapologetically believe is one of the strongest and coolest brands ever. That tv commercial to this day still gives us chills. .
We are oddly proud of the shield shape layout with the mascot because though it breaks the shield and seems off kilter, like an actual elk, the angle creates a balanced design. The highest point on the antlers does not cross the tallest point of the angled shield so production would not be thrown off with slightly uncentered products. .
The arches secondary mark simply needed to be made, a no brainer, but we love how it is almost interchangeable with the primary. This mark represents something we always try to do with our brands and create something bigger than a team logo. Something people would want to steal for other purposes. Jersey designs are being made now, with our Barn details abound, we might have to reel them in (we aren’r sure if the hockey world is ready for them).
