Former USMNT striker David Wagner has been sacked as Norwich manager following a 4-0 loss to Leeds United in the promotion playoff.

Wagner was appointed by Norwich in January 2023 after the club was suffering bad results.

He helped them finish 13th in that season but brought them up all the way to sixth this season, helping them reach the promotion playoff.

He had to go months without USMNT striker Josh Sargent due to injury, who still finished as the club’s top striker this season just like last season.

Sargent recently praised Wagner for putting trust in him to be the striker and having a system that has helped him score a lot of goals.

As a manager, Wagner has worked with American players in every team he’s taken charge of.

Wagner worked with former USMNT midfielder Danny Williams at Huddersfield, where he helped them get promoted to the Premier League.

He also worked with Weston McKennie at Schalke, and with Jordan Pefok at Young Boys.

That’s not all. When he was managing Borussia Dortmund II from 2011 to 2015, he managed former USMNT players like Terrence Boyd, Joe Gyau, and former USYNT player Junior Flores.

The striker played eight games for the USMNT from 1996 to 1998.
