It took less than a minute for Leonardo Campana to make a difference tonight.

He scored the winner in the 94th minute, and you can see emotions pouring out in his celebration.

Currently a Young DP for Inter Miami and once a breakout star for Ecuador, he’s too good for a bench role in MLS. This is his story.

Campana comes from a wealthy and powerful family in Ecuador.

His father is a former tennis star turned politician. His grandfather was the president of Ecuadorian wide Barcelona SC. His great grandfather won six league titles as player.

The forward is also related to current Ecuador president.

Campana showed a lot of promise as a teenager, and was one of the breakout stars in the 2019 U-20 World Cup. 

Unfortunately, his move to Premier League side Wolves didn’t work out and he couldn’t impress either during loan spells at Portugal and Switzerland.

Despite that, when Inter Miami landed him in 2022, it was seen as a coup due to his talent.

Campana started off with a bang, scoring 11 goals in 26 games during the first season.

He followed that with nine goals last year, despite his minutes becoming limited due to Josef Martínez.

Josef is no longer there, but the arrival of Luis Suárez made his playing time even harder to come by.

Campana has shown that he’s capable of starting and scoring in MLS.

Hopefully, he can find more playing time soon to get back into the Ecuador national team picture. 🇪🇨
