Meet Constable Michael Strange, who’s connection to Mildura has been a driving force through each step of his career.

Last year he graduated from the Police Academy as a Constable after four years as a Police Custody Officer (PCO).

In 2019, while working in retail, Michael decided he was ready for a new career and put in his application for the PCO role. For him, it enabled him to take the next step in his career while still being able to work in his hometown of Mildura.

And that experience was exactly what he needed it to be – an insight into the role of police and how the local stations operate. Ultimately, it was the connections he made in the role that encouraged him to apply as a police officer.

“The people you’ll meet, and the friends you’ll make, will give you the push to better yourself” he says.

Listing one of his biggest challenges as being away from his community during his time at the Academy, Michael says it was the people in his training squad that helped him the most.

“The comradery and friendships I made helped make the experience so much more enjoyable”.

Now a few months into the role, Michael says he’s keen to focus on his general duties – but is intrigued by a role in forensics or even the Critical Incident Response Team in the future. For now, he’s happy sticking with his community.
