Today is #TransVisibilityDay! The recent attacks on gender affirming care – like Tennessee’s new bill – are unconscionable. Gender affirming care saves lives. Period.⁣
⁣
Transgender people are the leaders and foundations of movements and have been throughout the ages. The dynamic power of the leaders of Stonewall in New York City (thestonewallinn) and the Compton Cafeteria Riots in San Francisco. Trans leaders across the country establishing Transgender Historic Districts, claiming space, and sharing history. We remember heroes like Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and Felicia Flames. We stand with Miss Major Griffin Gracy, Cece McDonald, Zahara Green, and so many others.⁣
⁣
Despite this powerful, dynamic history, the cruelty of politics has a price. The legislation, mis/disinformation, and social shaming have dangerous health outcomes for Transgender people. Trans women are six times more likely to die of unnatural causes compared to the cisgender female community.⁣
⁣
On Trans Visibility Day, we acknowledge that Black, Brown, Indigenous, and Latinx trans people often bear the biggest burdens of systemic discrimination and hate crimes.⁣
⁣
To have a #peaceful, #green and just planet we must all be free.
