The Santa Marta Sabrewing had not had a documented sighting since 2010, but since it was unexpectedly rediscovered by researchers in 2022, they have been able to learn more about this mysterious species.

A team has been working with local Indigenous communities and found a population of this hummingbird in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a mountain range in Colombia.

My organization rewild and their partners selvaorgco, unaloficial, procatcolombia, americanbirdconservancy, and world_parrot_trust have released new findings about the geographic distribution, local abundance, behavior, and ecology of this mysterious hummingbird.
