“Allowing audiences the best possible opportunity to cultivate a connection with Pangolin meant showcasing the world what cradles these illusive beings. Shooting a visual experience of a world which exists within and beneath the earth, expanding this outward to weather systems and celestial bodies, and refining this experience through hyper-macro allows us to create a closeness and connection with the entire landscape. It allows us to invite audiences into a shared and united experience with the environment - the place which Pangolin calls home, as do we.

Filming in an environment inhabited by apex predators like lions and leopards, as well as megafaunas such as elephants, rhinos, and buffaloes, presents obvious safety challenges, especially on foot at night. These challenges always prove to be as equally inspiring, though, as being a part of a team that is so dedicated to sharing a story that they’ll risk everything forms a truly unique bond. A bond shared by the team with the environment, her inhabitants, and each other. 

Capturing a life lived an inch off the surface of the earth, and the POV of this life was done using the RED V-RAPTOR with nothing more than a lens, top-handle, and monitor. This allowed us to take the camera into our subject’s world, move through this world together with them, and as them. The S35 sensor allowed us to take a step closer without having to and also allowed us to see deeper within the macro world, very often beyond anything we could have imagined. The V-RAPTOR’s resilience, ergonomics, and form factor allowed us to take its 8K sensor into never-before-seen worlds and capture them more intimately than ever before.
