If it hasn’t happened to you yet, it will. At some moment in your life, a message will travel to you, and when it arrives, you’ll never forget where you were when you heard it. Often, these messages are events of huge tragedy or historical significance, but sometimes, they are of a much deeper personal nature.

One of mine came a year ago when my best friend was in an accident.  Scott Borchetta is a racer at heart and lives on the bleeding edge, pushing boundaries with life and his love of racing cars.  We all knew the risks he assumed as he did it, but we also thought he was some Superman with skills.  That is, until he’s not.  I received the call from my friend CJ Olivares, whom I worked with at the WSL and now ran MavTV, which broadcasted Scott’s race.  When CJ called, I knew it was bad; his tone was different and asked if I heard about Scott.  I’ll never forget that call and where I was. 

It wasn’t long after that call that reality sank in fast.  The fact that we may lose him.  I think we have all been there with friends and loved ones, that helpless feeling that only the power of hope and prayer gets them and you through. 

On This Day, I want to honor everyone who has received those calls, knowing that the older we get and as time marches on, there will likely be more coming. 

The gift in this story is that Scott has not only progressed but is also back at over 100%. (Ask the Big Machine Label Group!). 

His recovery from this wreck has been nothing short of a miracle, and it speaks to his testament to his will to not quit and get back. You hear it all the time: Life is short. Don’t miss a moment because it can be gone in the blink of an eye—it’s so true. Take today, be grateful, call your parents, call someone, even a total stranger, and honor life. 

Scott made this video to show his journey back, determination, and hope to inspire others. 

No matter how down you may be, you can always come back, stronger and better than ever.
