#RAISEIT1 UNDEFEATED!! The Pirates were able to take care of business in yesterday’s Opening Day contest, topping the Cubs 5-3 in a 4+ hour 9-inning marathon! Pittsburgh was able to take an early lead that set the tone for the rest of the afternoon. Adam Frazier drew a leadoff walk in the first, which was immediately followed up by a 105.3 MPH cannon over the left field ivy by none other than Ke’Bryan Hayes. We all know this kid has something special in him and he seems to be the next big thing in this city. He’s the favorite to win NL Rookie of the Year, but more importantly he looks to be one of the leaders on this club for years to come. Kevin Newman, Jacob Stallings, and Adam Frazier notably each recorded a pair of hits that rounded off a solid 5-run day. The team was not very good with runners in scoring position, so there could have been much more production there, but they got the job done.

Chad Kuhl was shaky in his first Opening Day start. Congrats to him on getting the nod this past week. Definitely wasn’t the outing he hoped for, but not much damage was done. The defense behind him was sloppy, with errors by Gold Glove candidates Adam Frazier and Jacob Stallings costing a run. Kuhl’s line nonetheless: 3 IP, H, 2 R, ER, 3 BB, 2 SO. Hopefully it was just jitters and he can bounce back next time.

The bullpen was certainly the story of the day. They had a tough 6-inning task ahead of them to hold the lead the Bucs carried. Duane Underwood Jr. faced his former club and absolutely dominated, striking out the side with some nasty pitches. Sam Howard did the same thing. David Bednar finished with 2 Ks in his Pirates’ debut, with a wiffleball-like pitch to get one of them. Clay Holmes was solid too. Richard Rodriguez walked one to bring the tying run to the plate but was able to K Jason Heyward to end it.

Always fun to win on Opening Day. Great feeling to have baseball back. Tyler Anderson is on the hill to face former Bucco foe Jake Arrieta tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon. LET’S GO BUCS!! #PiratesOnly #LetsGoBucs
