#RAISEIT1 RAISE THE JOLLY ROGER!! The Pirates get in the win column for the first time of 2020, defeating the Cardinals 5-1 to avoid the sweep! Lots of positives all around, but let’s start with our starter Mitch Keller. Keller was shaky at times, issuing three walks in 5 innings, but he worked around those and ended up with a solid outing in his first go of the season. His line: 5 IP, 2 H, R/ER, 3 BB, 2 SO. Strikeout numbers were low, but he held the Cards to only 2 hits and gives himself a boost to his resume for Rookie of the Year. The bats were silent early on but finally got going during the fourth inning with TWO Bucco blasts from Colin Moran and Jose Osuna respectively. Great to see the long ball early in the season with the lack of them in 2019. Gotta love what I saw from Phillip Evans in the lineup as well. Evans scored on Osuna’s HR and finished the day 3-4 at the plate. Storyline of the afternoon has gotta be the Major League debut of Bucs’ RHP JT Brubaker. Brubaker (itsjtbrubaker) threw 2 scoreless innings, striking out 4 (!), also getting out of a bit of a jam with no damage. Congrats to JT!! Michael Feliz threw a scoreless 8th followed by Nick Burdi, who dominated the Cards and struck out the side to end it. One more this is Derek Shelton’s FIRST career win as a manager and it couldn’t have been much better, so congrats to Shelty as well! Such a huge win for the Pirates after dropping the first two. They head back to Pittsburgh tomorrow for their home opener in the series opener with the Milwaukee Brewers. It’s Steven Brault’s ball for game one. LET’S GO BUCS!! #PiratesOnly #LetsGoBucs
