#RAISEIT62 COMEBACK KIDS!! The Pirates evade a three-run deficit in the 7th inning to steal a win over the NL Central-leading Cardinals! Alex McRae was given another heavy weighted task with the major league team to make a spot start after just being activated by the team within the past few days. Aside from a second inning 2-run homer, McRae did a great job for the circumstances he was given. The expectations surrounding his performance weren’t high at all with what happened in Cincinnati not too long ago, but he executed and kept the Bucs in the game. The line on McRae: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R/ER, 2 BB, SO. The teams were in a close 2-1 affair until the Cardinals struck for another pair in the seventh. Tommy Edman blasted his 2nd HR of the evening off of Richard Rodriguez. Matt Carpenter proceeded to double in a run to make it 4-1, with most hope being lost in front of the small PNC Park crowd. The bats came to live in the bottom of the frame when it took a combo of John Gant, Andrew Miller, and Johnny Brebbia to complete just the 7th inning. Josh Bell blooped a single to pull the Pirates within a run, bringing his impressive RBI total to 114. Back-to-back singles from Jose Osuna and Melky Cabrera flipped the switch to where the Pirates led by one. Adam Frazier extended the lead with a 2-run triple off of the Clemente Wall. What a turn of events. Frazier, Osuna, Starling Marte, and Kevin Newman all finished with multi-hit nights. Marte capped off his effort with a 2-run single in the 8th. Felipe Vázquez came on in the 8th with two runners on, striking out Tommy Edman to end the frame. Vázquez would throw the 9th as well and finished off the Cardinals for the save. Great win. Always feels good to beat a rival in the middle of their playoff race. A series win could be achieved in tonight’s second game where Steven Brault looks to continue his prominent second half.
