#RAISEIT1 FIRST WIN!! The Pirates grab their first victory of the season, 5-0 over the Reds in a dominant fashion! Trevor Williams absolutely shut down the Reds to open his 2019 season, picking up where he left off last year. Williams worked his way up and down Cincy’s lineup, being efficient with his fastball like usual, even sneaking in a curveball in once in a while that looked nasty. He finished with 6 strong innings, ending off his day with a clutch strikeout of Yasiel Puig with runners on first and third. Trev’s final line: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R/ER, BB, 6 SO. The Bucs’ lineup got to Reds’ RHP Sonny Gray early with three runs in the first 3 innings. Though they could’ve scored more, it was good to see the boys getting on base. Josh Bell started the day with an RBI single in the first. Trevor Williams himself picked up a couple of RBI in back to back innings with a single and a bases loaded walk. Hitting with runners in scoring position was a problem on the day overall, but 5 runs will do when you have one of your best throwers on the mound in Williams. The last half of the game was pretty uneventful besides the two insurance runs Pittsburgh snagged in the 8th. Joe Musgrove was able to get some work in out of the pen after his start was pushed back to later in the week, pitching to a pair of perfect innings totaling 30 pitches. Felipe Vázquez had a bit of trouble in a non-save situation in the ninth, but Keone Kela cleaned up his “mess” and retired Matt Kemp to finish off the Reds. Tomorrow is the day. The Pirates return to Pittsburgh for #OpeningDayPNC as they take on the Cardinals with Chris Archer making his season debut. It will be the first of a short two-game series. LET’S GO BUCS!! #ProtectTheShip #LetsGoBucs
