In 2022 we have a challenge: Plan every trip of the year outside of the area's peak travel season.

As the tourism industry picks back up and vaccines continue rolling out, this is the first full year since 2019 that people are going to be able to travel in earnest - which means a lot of cities are going to see more people at one time than they have in years.

While that can be great, it can also be a strain on the economy.

So our challenge: Miss the crowds. Head out outside of the peak season, when locals, not tourists, take over the best bars and restaurants of the area. Go when things are calm enough to give you a glimpse into what life is like where you're traveling, not what big tourism companies want to sell you on.

By going then, you'll be able to spread out the economy's tourism money and get an experience you'd never get when jostling through crowded tourist streets.
