Today is World Parkinson’s Day!
This gives us an opportunity to learn, discuss and spread a greater understanding of Parkinson’s Disease.🌷

• Parkinson’s now affects 145,000 people throughout the UK
• It is a neurological disease which is progressive
• Parkinson’s affects everyone differently
• There are over 40 symptoms including, tremor, freezing, change in sleep and mental health.
• Symptoms fluctuate on a daily basis.

Whilst there is currently no cure, there is a tremendous amount of research being carried out to find one. Medical advances mean that those living with Parkinson’s Disease are able to take appropriate medication to alleviate the symptoms of the disease. We live in hope that one day a cure can be found. 🙏

I am a companion at The Bespoke Life on a Thursday, but since 2016 I have been fortunate enough to teach weekly 'Dance with Parkinson’s' sessions in Gloucestershire. It is a precious time in my week, and I consider it a privilege to work with such amazing, resilient and strong people. The classes are designed to help maintain that vital connection with your body, that Parkinson’s can feel like it is taking away, whilst helping to alleviate some of the many symptoms, improving mood, core strength and flexibility.

Extensive research into dance and its benefits for those with Parkinson’s has shown that dancing activates the brains sensory and motor circuits, improves neuroplasticity and creates new neural pathways in the brain. The music and synchronicity of movement improves well being and is real positive mood boost.

To say we have a lot of fun is putting it mildly. There is a lot of laughter and a good feeling of friendship and connection within the group. A time to leave Parkinson’s behind and enjoy the world of dance. After class, we come together for tea, coffee, cake and a good chat!

If you would like to attend class or know someone who would, then please see the links in our bio.

The first class is free, and you can bring your family, friend or carer along too without charge! A warm welcome awaits you, no dance experience necessary.
