Shaping a sustainable future for all can only be done by making #EarthDay, every day. 

Our fiu_soa students and faculty are taking up the challenge by using our access to tropical and subtropical regions in South Florida and emerging technology to create environmentally friendly designs, and address climate change and sea level rise!

* Our Landscape Architecture + Environmental and Urban Design students have been working with The Wolfsonian on their expansion efforts to create more integrated green spaces into the museum's design, connecting interior to exterior through green rooftop gardens, green courtyards and entryways, and more. Also,  students Anne Coke, Sofia Hernandez, and Raquel Rosati, who designed a master plan for the City of Tillamook and proposed wonderful visionary ideas to prevent runoff contamination from agricultural fields, won first place internationally in competition. Our students are also getting their hands to the plow through different invasive species clean-up initiatives locally, and working at various pollinator gardens. 
* Our Robotics and Digital Fabrication (RDF) is researching climate change and the sea level rise impact in Miami by working on an innovative approach to enhancing the sustainability of coastlines. Combining cutting-edge technology with ecological conservation methods, the project “Ecoblox" is a modular system of blocks designed to attach to seawalls to enhance the marine biodiversity at the water's edge. These blocks are designed using a mix of environmental data, advanced analytics, AI algorithms, and digital fabrication, for creating complex shapes and textures that support marine life. Under the guidance of Dr. Shaghin Vassigh and Dr. Sara Pezeshck and our graduate students, they are working on a sustainable tomorrow for our Miami and Beyond.
