Back in 2021, packers running back ajdillon2 shared that he was Jewish in a viral TikTok video that’s been viewed nearly one million times. He also spoke with NFL insider adamschefter about a number of topics, including his Jewish identity after the video. 

Growing up in New London, Connecticut, Judaism was a huge part of Dillon’s upbringing. Dillon attended Hebrew School and observed Jewish holidays with his family. He describes Judaism as “one of those things I naturally sought out.”

Dillon attended Boston College, a Catholic school, where he was the only Jewish player on the football team. He says his teammates were supportive of the unique aspects and challenges Judaism presented to him — such as missing practices or meetings in observance of holidays.

In 2022, A.J. Dillon attended the BBYOInsider conference, one of the largest gatherings of Jewish teenagers in the world. He was asked what he appreciates the most about being Jewish — his response: “I would say the history. I’d say the lineage. I’d say the proud history, that’s something in the Hendel family — we have a book that goes back that’s constantly being updated with every new member, every past member of our family."
