Our students have been very busy competing in regional STEM competitions and we have much to share about their experiences.

owenwatson848 (senior, oghsknights, South Dakota) placed 1st in the Behavioral and Social Sciences Behavioral and Social Sciences senior division at the Eastern South Dakota Science and Engineering Fair and will now move on to represent Eastern South Dakota at the #RegeneronISEF in Los Angeles on May 11-17, 2024.

laurenn_meyer (junior, oghsknights, South Dakota) placed 1st in the Medicine and Health Sciences senior division at the Eastern South Dakota Science and Engineering Fair, was the Grand Award Runner-up, and was selected as an alternate for #RegeneronISEF in Los Angeles in May. Lauren also received three Special Awards:
🔬 American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (SD Chapter)
🔬 Midwest Section of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry
🔬 Regeneron Biomedical Science Award

Additionally, Lauren competed earlier this quarter in the regional go_jshs where she won 2nd place and will be moving on to represent South Dakota at the National JSHS in Albuquerque, New Mexico May 1-4, 2024. 

This is the second year in a row that South Dakota will be represented at the National Junior Science & Humanities Symposium (JSHS), ending a decade-long drought on the National stage.

Aliyah Tolentino (senior, Whitefield Academy, Missouri) placed 3rd place in the Molecular Biology/Chemistry & Health Sciences senior division at the Greater Kansas City Science & Engineering Fair. She received the Pioneers in Science Award, which is only given to one out of the top seven projects among the senior division across all categories, in recognition of outstanding examples of student research, innovation, and design. 

Owen, Lauren, and Aliyah also have manuscripts based on their work that they will be submitting for publication this quarter.
