In 1986 Pete Dye designed Old Marsh Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Old Marsh is an environmentally protected area, so it was not an easy task for Dye to fit a 440-acre golf course, but he did and it turned out beautifully. Dye and his team developed a new recycling system at Old Marsh to keep it environmentally friendly. A a six-foot-wide moat at the edge of the border of the marsh to keep golf balls from ever leaving the course. Dye had to build 30-acres of manmade marshes, with this he improved the drainage of the golf course and the wildlife. Behind the 5th green there is a bronze bell which players use to signal the group behind that they have completed play. On the bell there is a plaque with an inscription paying tribute to Pete Dye's father, it reads; “Ring the bell for my dad, Paul F. Dye, who loved his family and everything about the game of golf.” Old Marsh Golf Club became certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary in 1998.
