Tonight I drove around Denver + Boulder visiting some of my favorite venues. With my heart sinking into my stomach, I thought about how hard these past months have been not only myself but on my friends who rely solely on the music industry for their livelihoods. I thought hack to that first week in March when I was singing my heart out to havemercymd in a sea of sweaty people at my favorite place in the world, the marquistheater. I remembered how I had no idea that a couple days later, kylieketchner and I would officially suspend concert coverage on crave.thesound to keep our staff safe. And then just a couple days after that came the day that all our calendars became empty and the venues turned out their lights. I never thought during that crazy week in March that I’d be writing this on September 2nd, with no end to this shut down in sight. Many of us accepted that live music would be the last thing to come back, but it still feels so bleak.

And I know many of you reading this are really bummed to have missed out on summer of music in Colorado with many nights spent at Red Rocks and all your other favorite venues. But remember, so many musicians + their crew + venue staff have lost their livelihoods. To put it in perspective, “Between April 1 and July 31, 2020, Colorado’s statewide music industry lost 8,327 jobs and $344.6 million in sales revenue, according to a recent report. This represents 51% of total employment statewide and 24% of its annual sales revenue.” (denverpost). As we raise awareness and urge congress to pass the RESTART act, do three things:
1. Support a local venue or band by purchasing their merchandise or donating.
2. Donate to a organization that’s providing assistance to crew members.
3. WEAR YOUR MASK.

If you’re a small biz in Colorado’s music industry that has been affected PLEASE dm me. I’d like to start a conversation with you and find ways to help you.
