Rooted in Tradition🌳 

Y'all it is time for the big one. Seniors have waited for this moment all four years and for #Elon2024 it is finally here. Tonight they will be receiving their oak saplings! 

The tradition began in 1991 when alumnus Furman Moseley spoke to the graduating class, he gave every graduate a redwood sapling. The following year, President Fred Young made the sapling a permanent tradition in 1992 but opted to give an oak sapling (you know, because Elon means oak in Hebrew).

Up until 2021, students received their saplings at graduation. In 2022, Baccalaureate was reimagined to not only take place Under the Oaks but to end with seniors receiving their saplings from alumni.
