On our recent Yosemite adventure we spent less than $300 for TWO —✈️🚗⛽️🍲🥾🎫 . 
•
This summer we’re all about prioritizing experiences and sharing quality time outdoors! There’s no right way to travel… but if you can research ahead 📝, responsibly use credit card points, and ‘rough it’ a bit ⛺️.. you CAN have lifelong experience on a limited budget! We’re both 9-5ers with a mortgage in San Diego 😑💸.

WHAT WE SPENT OVER 3 DAYS in YOSEMITE: Hope this provides budget travel inspo✌️. 
•
TRANSPORTATION : 
✈️: $22. Here’s how we got creative—there are often $49 flights to Sacramento from San Diego, and Sac is only 3 hrs from Yosemite! 🚙. For our 2nd time we got southwestair’s Companion pass 💳, which means I fly free every time Evan books a flight. We used 7,000 points ($98 equ.), and paid $22 in taxes. Bags (aka, our backpacks w/ camping gear) fly free on southwestair!

⛽️ $56: Our friends travellife_journey picked us up at the airport 🙏—then the 5 of us split gas to Yosemite!
•
PERMIT 🎫: $14 —With backcountry permits we were able to summit Half Dome AND camp in the surrounding forest (designated areas only). 
•
🍲 GROCERIES, deli sandwiches & dehydrated meals: $125. Food is never cheap, but when you’re camping it can be! Note: We often dehydrate meals & buy in bulk 🐿. 
•
⛺️Camping, night one, at ‘Backpackers Camp’: $16. Did you know Yosemite offers a central area designated for backpackers to camp overnight?? With a backpacking permit you can camp here for $8/person! 
•
🌮: $40 —Late Night Taco Shop when we left the mountains 😂.
•
💰TOTAL: $273 (for two) 
•

⁉️Ever considered traveling with friends to share expenses? 
•
IMP NOTE: we’ve collected great camping & backpacking gear over the years, and this is absolutely an expense to consider. Keep in mind that a ton of items can be purchased used or borrowed (FB Marketplace & OfferUp, in the 🇺🇸)! I used my Dad’s old backpack for the last 4 years before splurging on rei’s garage sale 🎒! You don’t need epic gear to begin—but with each use it sure helps reduce your overall expenses!
