Here’s what you must know (SAVE for future planning)—

📍 KOFA National Wildlife Refuge — 2.5 hrs from Phoenix + a great stop on your road trip west to California! 
•
☑️ The Refuge is free and ideal for backcountry hiking, photography, and wildlife watching. 
•
⛺️ Camp for free up to 14 days (a year), but there are NO facilities—so bring that shovel 🚽 + water & pack out what you pack in 🙏🏼. 
•
🥾 ‘Palm Canyon’ is a great short hike to a natural 🌴grove —other than this, you’re permitted to hike (mostly) anywhere: blaze your path safely & respectfully—leaving only foot prints🙏🏼. 
•
⛑Safety tip- download maps.me for an offline gps map, bring plenty of water and sun shade (this is the desert!!). 
•
✨ 🌅: You may never see the stars, sunrise or sunset like this! With zero light pollution you are in for a treat—-save for Milky Way season 🤩.
