⛔️ Beginners Guide to Backpacking & SAFETY 🙌🏼.

We celebrated by Dad’s 70th B-Day last year 🎉 with a Safe backpacking adventure! Here’s how we made a challenging 6-day adventure conducive for him AND my now 40 y/o brother—who disliked hiking prior to 2020! 
•
⏰ Shorten your daily distance! 🥾Stick to 5-7 miles/ day—take lots of snack breaks & enjoy the views 🤩. AND while most are still hiking you’ll secure the best campsites & start happy hour early 😅🍻.
•
🎒Don’t have gear? rei, rents most necessities! (And check with local outdoors stores!)
•
🙋🏻‍♀️There’s No shame—Hiking poles are our best friend! They help balance the pack weight and you’ll feel safe & secure climbing downhill and crossing streams! 
•
🚨Just in case—we got a garmin InReach. A GPS safety beacon that allows you to send 🆘 messages to safety responders. It’s pricey, ~$320, but was worth the peace of mind! 
•
🤠 Hire a cowboy & lighten the load! My Dad wanted to hike the famed #PCT and stunning #JohnMuirTrail—but the initial 4,000+ ft climb can be challenging. So we hired a local cowgirl, Brooke, who (with her trusty mules 🐴) delivered our packs to the top of the mountain 👏🏼. 
Tip: We loved frontier_pack_train!

REMEMBER- it’s not a race, and while you don’t have to be a skilled hiker to begin—you must be prepared, get permits (if needed), and familiarize yourself with #leavenotrace principles!
