Heavy to sleep under and impossible to clean, they can make a classic interior feel downright dated. Take, for example, this bedroom at the Flagler museum and imagine how much more inviting and luxe this bed would be bedecked in crisp white linens and a matelassé coverlet embroidered and appliquéd in coordinating colors, with a matching duvet or quilt folded at the foot. Of course there are notable exceptions but the current craze for piles of pretty, pressed pillows is one I am happy to embrace.
