Jacob aka “Mr. Heilman” is a fantastic teammate. Jacob constantly seeks to help his teammates and boat mates succeed. Apart from his hard work on the water, his post practice pushup routine might be the most impressive thing to witness. #gains

Providing insight and knowledge during car rides was an important part of Jacob’s role as a leader on this team and exemplified his goals of helping everyone to succeed.

Jacob started his rowing career as a sophomore on the novice team, where he won gold at WMIRA in the Novice 4. In the same season, Jacob was promoted to Varsity. Following the 2022 season, Jacob went to a Wisconsin rowing camp (who knew that’s where he’d end up) and hit 1 million meters for the first time going into his junior year. On the erg, Jacob added his name to the sub 22 club heading into Florida Training 2023 and medaled at Erg Sprints in the same month. Of the many races Jacob has been a part of, some of his favorites are winning the Novice 4 at WMIRA in 2022, grand finaling at midatlantics in 2023, and being a part of the first ever 2V in Jackson Reed Varsity Boys history to medal at WMIRA (silver).

Jacob always sought out competition and enjoyed scrimmaging teams like Bolles, Catholic University, Egg Harbor, and many other programs.

When not rowing, Jacob could be found laying down the hardest inspirational intros for bus ride albums or diving off the dock in Florida, and most recently swimming in Tennessee.

What Jacob appreciated the most from his time on the team was meeting so many different people, going different places, and working hard to get faster. Crew served as a tool to work hard every day academically and athletically.

Next year, Jacob will be heading to the University of Wisconsin, where he will reconnect with teammate Elias Johnson. He will be missed by his teammates / friends who appreciated the energy and determination brought to every practice, regatta, and day with the team.

Whether his career in rowing continues or not, we wish him the best of luck in his academic and athletic pursuits.
