For #HispanicHeritageMonth, we asked some members of the Rutgers campus community what they would like people to know about their heritage.

Today we are featuring Susan Badia, the President of The Association of Latino Professionals for America (@alpfa_runb).

"There’s a special kind of grit and resilience instilled in many minorities at Rutgers University and beyond that allow us to overcome so many obstacles, overcome barriers, and work extremely hard to reach ambitious goals. My Hispanic heritage, experience as a minority, and responsibility as a first-generation student has added such vivid color to my experiences at Rutgers University and has aided me in understanding the complex world we live in, while still paving a way towards success and opening paths for those that come after me. With every class I take at Rutgers University, every club I join, every friend I meet, I know that there’s a higher, much more meaningful purpose behind it, and that is to create paths, share opportunities, and learn so that I can be as equipped I as I can be to help the next person be the best person they can be. Now, the work is not easy, especially when you’re personally responsible for not only creating generational wealth, but generational success for those that come after you, but knowing that within me runs the passion, ambition, and power of my ancestors, I feel unstoppable and it is truly exciting."
