Speaker Highlight: Dr. Isabel Rivera-Collazo
Director of the Scripps Center for Marine Archaeology scma_ucsd scripps_ocean, Assistant Professor at the UC San Diego Department of Anthropology ucsdanthropology. 

Dr. Isabel Rivera-Collazo is the Director of the Scripps Center for Marine Archaeology, an Assistant Professor at the Department of Anthropology for the University of California San Diego, where she directs the SIO Human Ecology Laboratory. A native of Borikén (Puerto Rico), her work integrates earth sciences, archaeology, and marine ecology to study social vulnerability to climate change, focusing on coastal and marine areas. 

Through geoarchaeology and archaeomalacology, she draws lessons from the past to address present-day challenges. Her DUNAS project combines sand dune restoration, cultural heritage, and climate resilience. She also leads the California Heritage Climate Vulnerability Index project with the CA State Historic Preservation Office. Rivera-Collazo collaborates with the Borikua/Taino and Tongva communities, emphasizing citizen science and communal archaeology. She is a founding member of the UCSD Climate Action Lab and has received the 2020 Climate Adaptation Leader Award and the 2020 UCSD Integrity Award.
