Luminous Waters

This family-friendly performance by students from Abbotsford School of Integrated Arts (ASIA) – Sumas Mountain is inspired by the award-winning children’s book “Semá:th X̱ó:tsa Sts’ólemeqwelh Sx̱ó:tsa / Great-Gramma’s Lake” by Thetáx Chris Silver,  Xémontélót Carrielynn Victor, Kris Foulds, and Laura Schneider, published by thereachgallery. Watch as these talented performers bring to life three illuminated puppets based on more-than-human beings that would have once lived in and around the lake.

Selxwí:chel Arts and Culture Day

📍: Trethewey House Heritage Site

This annual event is back, bringing communities together and showcasing First Nations, Inuit and Métis arts and culture! Having made a recent transition in its name, you may have known this event as “Aboriginal Arts and Culture Day”. Abbotsford’s traditional name is Selxwí:chel in Halq’eméylem, meaning the middle of three. Selxwí:chel is in the middle of three communities: Matsqui, Semá:th and Nooksack. Being a local skills transmission event, this name was chosen to acknowledge and honour these communities.
