Flora D. Darpino, a @rutgers.law graduate, is a retired United States Army lieutenant general and military lawyer who was the 39th Judge Advocate General of the United States Army. She was the first woman to hold that position.⁣
⁣
On Sept. 3, 2013, she was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general and began serving as the U.S. Army’s senior military attorney. In that capacity, she leads over 10,000 legal professionals in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps at over 100 active and reserve Army legal offices across the United States and overseas. She had the distinct honor of serving as the command representative in engagements with the U.S. Embassy, coalition partners, and the Government of Iraq on complex legal and Rule of Law matters.⁣
⁣
Darpino has earned numerous awards and decorations for her military service, including the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with a Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Iraqi Campaign Medal. She also received the Air Assault Badge and the Army Staff Identification Badge.⁣

Check back each week as we are commemorating and encouraging the study, observance, and celebration of the vital role of Rutgers women for #WomensHistoryMonth 🌟⁣
