#DYK - Accessible workplaces lead to higher employee retention and productivity. According to a 2018 UBC study, employees with disabilities performed as well or better than average on productivity and had a 93% retention rate. And 92% of consumers favour employer that hires persons with disabilities.

Among those with disabilities aged 25-64 years old who were not employed and not currently in school, 39% had the potential to work. However, employed persons with disabilities still have incomes that fall short of those without disabilities.

According to a Statistics Canada report, more than one-third of employees with disabilities aged 25-64 years required at least one type of workplace accommodation. Flexible work arrangements, workstation modifications, and human or technical supports are common accommodations provided.

Of those who required accommodations: 59% had all of their needs met, 19% had some of their needs met, and 21% had none of their needs met. We must strive for full accessibility and inclusion in every workplace.
