My kids are currently hearing so this is hypothetical. 

If you asked me this a few years ago I'd likely have a mix of emotions the strongest being sadness. Because up until a few years ago I didn't want my children to have to go through challenges. But now I do - because I know the challenges presented to me as a child were what helped me build my resiliency, coping skills, motivation and positive mindset. If possible, I want my children to experience challenging friendships, obstacles and emotions while I'm available to support closely. And if one of those challenges was being deaf or hard of hearing - well, ahem, I DO have a little bit of personal experience with that so I feel confident that I could answer questions along the way and help them pave their own path. 

I would feel a bit of confidence like a mother raising a daughter. Instead of helping them hold a fork or chopsticks, I'd teach them how to put their hearing devices on independently, or know when their listening fatigue was nearing crash time. I'd start ASL from infancy (I already did with my hearing children), I'd get down on a child's level and make sure our home was accessible for them. It already is for an adult but perhaps there are some visual alerts or lights that need to be lower. 

You know what? Part of me would be happy. Happy that I could share an extra special commonality with my child, that only we could understand.
