📍In Joshua Tree National Park, the “backcountry” refers to remote & undeveloped areas of the park—away from roads, campgrounds, and facilities🚽 🚙 …

🔎 It’s rugged and natural, and while YES there are challenges and you have to PREPARE —it’s SO dang peaceful ✨.

📌 Joshua Tree’s one of USA’s most visited NP’s, and after seeing the LONG lines + overflowing popular areas, the quiet backcountry was a welcome reprieve.

Granted—MAY is HOT in Joshua Tree 🥵—SAVE for a FALL experience—it will be perfect. 🍁

⚠️ When venturing into the backcountry, you MUST be self-reliant—there are zero amenities and few marked trails. It’s critical to:

📌 Have offline GPS, like maps.me or pre-download your map on alltrails

📌Leave No Trace to preserve the wild environment 🙏 Learn more at leavenotraceorg.

In Joshua Tree, to camp in the backcountry:

📌	Permits are required at reservation.gov.

📌Camp < 1 mile from trailhead & 500 feet from any trail or water source. (Search for spaces other campers have used to lessen impact).

📌Pack out ALL trash

📌 Carry or cache a MIN of 4 liters of water per person per day— we had 7.5 liters each and it wasn’t enough in the heat, so we never got too far and looped back to our car on day 2 👍. There is NO water in the park, so always bring extra.

If you’d like to experience, visit recreation.gov, joshuatreenps, and leavenotraceorg for helpful tips.

❓How cute was the giant desert tortoise? 🐢
