Lighthouse Park is the location of the first St. Augustine Lighthouse, which stood as a wooden watchtower since the late 1500s, then as a lighthouse from the 1700s through 1880, when it fell into the ocean. The current St. Augustine Lighthouse was built from 1871-74 on higher ground.
